This is a new stool I've been working on, it's a light wireframe structure with a wooden seat. The concept for this stool was to make something out of very few parts (4) legs, rings and seat. The upper ring is very useful when it comme to pick up or move the stool, this because of the small gap between the seat and the exterior ring ( O stands for orbit, the ring trace and orbit around the seat) and the lower ring is a little wider to prefectly become a nice a comfortable foot rest when in use. Materials are brushed stainless steel structure and the seat is solid beech wood or oak. I will add more images for details later on.

couple cups

This is a set of two cups in porcelain or melamine. I've called them "couple cups" because of the handles; the cups have two different grips representing male and female symbols. These cups are also stackable. I wanted to design a new simple cup, for serving coffee & tea trying to create a cup with a shape that can me easily recognized by its handle, the essence of the project. click here for more images >

Limited Edition

Punch Coffee Mugs Second Limited Edition can be recognize by the bottom black signature. (100) and the First Limited Edition is recognized by the same signature in light blue print in the bottom of the mug. I will probably change something in every edition so people can recognize the cups the bought. This is a picture of the white version of the second limited edition mug.

manta design - maison & objet

Fue una verdadera sorpresa encontrar mi taza en el stand de manta design en el salon maison & objet de paris, no lo esperaba, ya que en teoria la taza deberia salir a fines de septiembre, pero habia ya una de muestra en el stand de la marca que distribuye los productos de fred and friends en francia.

Y por una vez mi nombre estaba bien escrito al fondo de la taza, que importante que es eso, bueno ademas sale todo lo de rigor, el logo de "Fred", "not for use in microwave", "hand wash only" y el infaltable "made in china". Me di cuenta que las originales que hice en edicion limitada en blanco y plateado no tienen nada que envidiarle a estas, creo que como siempre hay muchas cosas que se pueden mejorar, pero claro que a que costo.

ideas are around...

this is what fernando campana told me in 2006 during a workshop at boisbuchet. This has been turning around in my mind for quite some time until last year when I decided to take more seriously my work as a designer, to believe more in my ideas in a certain way.

during the workshop under the direction fernando and humberto campana I developped several sets of cutlery from empty bottles and canisters, I believe this was a great way to approach design and to create something out of rubbish, the first model I did looked something like this (I believe this was a empty bottle of ginger ale or seven up....)

After that, I notice something was really bad in my idea, the cutlery wasn't strong enough to be actually used. but like most of design work doing this little steps pushed me into going forward with this idea. I switched the bottles for empty canisters, this was perfect, the plastic was soft enough to work with but strong enough to use as real ustencils. one plus I did not planed was that canisters came in various and bright colours, this added a playfull meaning to the project, the only thing I did not wanted was to do a project that was to straight or to serious. Anyway, the project turn and became a elegant folding flat salad set, it was picked up by pandora design in milano and presented during the milan off in 2007 but never got to production, I'm still looking for a cutlery manufacturer. Here are some of the final models and images from that workshop in summer 2006, It was without a doubt a great and rich experience.

This one is also missing from my models! I hope they are aroud somewhere...

Used Mug

This is the first metal glazed prototype. I've been using this mug for 6 months now and I must say the glazing is still looking good, it has now a patina finish that enhances the vintage mean looking of the metal version of the mug. I hope the lucky ones that have the chance to own one of these will feel the same way.

ICFF 2009 / designboom mart

Nunca habría imaginado la buena experiencia que sería el designboom mart, durante 4 días pude ver la reacción de la gente con mis diseños. Un diseñador generalmente trabaja en su rincón esperando que le soliciten algo o le hagan un encargo y rara vez va a enfrentar al usuario/consumidor final, a diferencia de lo que podría ser un artesano que comercializa sus productos hechos manualmente o con procesos no reproducibles en serie. Creo que lo mas importante no fue el simple hecho de vender directamente los diseños sin un intermediario como sería lo común, sino de estar directamente respondiendo a las dudas de la gente sobre una u otra cosa que les intrigaba sobre un objeto, o bien intentar justificar el buen o mal funcionamiento con argumentos convincentes, en resumen tener un intercambio con la gente, un “feedback”. A pesar de estar al fondo de la muestra, la gente siempre queda sorprendida ya que es en situaciones como esta que se encuentran las creaciones más osadas o más originales y la gente parece apreciarlo bastante, mas de en una oportunidad escuche a alguien decir « esta es la parte mas entretenida de la feria » o « es increíble las cosas que crean » y no esta nada lejos de ser verdad ya que las grandes marcas o grandes empresas internacionales tienen un sistema demasiado complejo que no les permite tomar riesgos, aun cuando algunos lo hacen. Lo mas a menudo es que se vayan a lo seguro, firmando con un diseñador ya conocido. Esto crea una verdadera barrera para los diseñadores jóvenes. En aún más increíble que en países como Italia donde las empresas sobran no se le da seguramente mas de 10 o 20% de oportunidades a los diseñadores jóvenes locales y eso se repite en los otros países una y otra vez, es como si siempre la empresas prefiriesen mirar fuera Cuando lo mas probable es que tengan las soluciones mas apropiadas en frente de ellos. Y por ultimo si no fuese el caso, acudir a un poco de sentido nacionalista no hace mal, ya que así se logra una identidad que podría ser bien recibida en un mundo donde todo esa ya mezclado y es imposible reconocer de donde viene un diseño. Hasta hace poco tiempo pensaba que era bueno justamente que los objetos fuesen universales y fáciles de entender para cualquiera en cualquier parte del mundo, me daba justamente la sensación con el diseño francés que al no tener una tradición carecía de adjetivos muy marcados como el italiano o alemán. Creo que esto se ha perdido, no hay nuevos diseñadores en Italia que estén marcando la diferencia hoy en día, solo leyendas. Alemania sin duda tiene a uno de los mas originales en Konstantin Grcic y algunos mas. Francia se luce por su gran diversidad, pero lo variado y disperso de sus diseñadores hace diluirse la importancia que podría tener el diseño francés.

Con esto quiero decir que la barrera que existe entre los diseñadores que recién empiezan es difícil de superar, a menos de provocar situaciones que permitan generar espacios para mostrar lo que pueden hacer los que están fuera del circulo mediático del diseño. Por eso agradezco la iniciativa de designboom y de birgit lohmann que logran hacer de manera desinteresada y solo por su passion por el diseño.

Canyon Stack Stool

The “Stack” stool, is a very simple yet sculptural piece of furniture, it made out of discs of solid wood, these discs are piled up increasing in diameter all the way up to the seat composed of 3 larger diameter discs, all the discs are mounted disaxed. This gives the stool a particular organic and sculptural shape.

Il s'agit d'une idée très simple, faire d'un système de rangement, un objet plus amusant en référence a un jeu bien connu comme le morpion (tic tac toe en anglais).
L'ensemble es composé de 10 éléments, un encadrement et neuf caissons identiques qui peuvent a l'occasion devenir étagère pour exposer des livres, caisse pour accueillir des objets moins intéressants.
La composition de cette étagère un peu particulière est donné par le jeu et sa simplicité et le seul but de ce système de rangement est d'apporter une touche amusante dans une pièce.

GRACE CHAIRS

« Grace » est une série constitué par une chaise, un stool et un armchair, le concept cherche la souplesse et un geste léger, en générant un maximum de sensations avec un minimum de ressources, en utilisant des matériaux qui permettent de réduire les épaisseurs pour obtenir un équilibre visuel.

 

Elle présente un confort et flexibilité grâce a sa structure et a la matière dépourvue de tout mécanisme, la forme garde la continuité de lignes pour qu’elle soit simplement élégante.

TT Small Desk

Petit Bureau ou table d'appoint sur un seul tréteau en acier chromé et tablette en bois plaqué. Grâce au décalage du tréteau et a son design asymétrique, le plateau est en équilibre, et sa stabilité est accentuée lorsque l'on pose un objet dessus. Il n'y a pas de mécanisme ni d'attaches complexes. Ses composants se montent et se mettent en place facilement. L'encombrement une fois rangé est minimal.

Hace dos años envie un diseño junto a su maqueta al concurso de diseño andreuworld, lamentablemente por problemas de correo el paquete me fue devuelto por llegar fuera de plazo. Asi que esta vez tomé un poco mas de precauciones para la postulacion. La maquete fue expuesta en el showroom de la marca en Valencia despues del salon del mueble y de la premiacion. De todas maneras es gratificante quedar entre los finalista dentro de 1500 participantes y mas de 300 maquetas.

pipe lamp

Experimental for now, pipe lamp is an intersection pipe at 45°, it's a table lamp, for desk use or by default a 2 directional rotation lamp shade. I will add some more pictures later. I'm right now working on a full model including a base stand and adding some colors and a back cap.

network chair - model vs. render

Network, elegant and functional. A complete scale of executions with variety of applications. The chair consists of bend Beech wood, Oak wood or Walnut plywood cutout and is a very versatile concept.

Network, a chair with a lot of options, suitable for the contract interiors. Because of its elegance, comfort and possibilities, Network has even all the options to be suitable as residential furniture! The chairs can optionally have armrest and even the option of a writing tablet is not at all excluded for education uses.

The chair comes into shape by a bend operation with 3 parallel axes of a simple plywood board and that’s all. In a grid the chairs cutout shape fits with each other perfectly and with no space between them, constituting a network in all directions.

Resuming, Network is not just a chair, it’s a system, even better than this I could say it’s a simple concept that involves main design ideas, like use of renewable and degradable materials, a simple shape with very little loss and a simplicity that could evolve into many different furniture products.

Out of this simple design process other furniture products such a low lounge chairs, tables stools and other accessories can be created and could complement the system. And in the particular case of the chair, a upholstered seat and back can be added for even better comfort.

Seating and furniture products like this one are the kind of designs that suit better our times, being in synchrony with contemporary shapes and remembrances.

japanese style desk job

Al fin, este ha sido un trabajo dificil pero ya llega al final, estas son solo algunas fotos de las oficinas de un doctor, todo esta hecho a medida, puertas correderas, repisas y escritorio. La madera es wengé con barniz natural, el color de la madera es natural, creo que sera la ultima vez que tenga que hacer un mueble con esta madera ya que por suerte muchos de los comerciantes de madera han hecho acuerdos con greenpeace para proteger el wengé, asi como muchas otras maderas nativas africanas y americanas

En el fondo se ven los trozos de bambu de 80mm de diametro que hacen recordar el piso que es de bambu macizo también.

Esta es la maqueta de una de las dos nuevas sillas que he dibujado ultimamente, aun no tiene nombre pero el concepto es bastante simple, luego agregaré algunos dibujos mas explicativos. Es de madera laminada de una sola pieza plegada en 3 ejes. Es un buen ejercicio despues de tanta 3d.
